Insects have hundreds of thousands of orders and are all unique in appearance and ability.
Grass Hoppers aren’t considered pests unless they are damaging our vegetation in great numbers, otherwise they are harmless and usually will avoid humans.
Some insects like Crickets make sounds for reproductive purposes, other insects create sounds for communication purposes. Insects that create this sound to transfer information to each other is called stridulation, this sound making phenomenon can only be achieved by Males in most insect orders.
Some examples of stridulating insects are Crickets and Grass Hoppers. Both of these species belong to the order orthoptera meaning straight winged. This order includes locusts which are closely related to Grass Hoppers, all these insects feed on plants sometimes and can destroy areas of vegetation in a matter of minutes if they are swarming (Everybody knows the story of Moses and the Locusts in Egypt). This is a very real and natural event that takes place in some parts of our country and can create disaster!
Insects in this order are different because they only undergo a simple life cycle like Cockroaches, Egg, nymph, and adult. Most flying Insects have a complete life cycle consisting of egg, larvae, pupae, and adult.
Grass Hoppers aren’t considered pests unless they are damaging our vegetation in great numbers, otherwise they are harmless and usually will avoid humans. Grass Hoppers in North Las Vegas, Las Vegas, and Henderson can be found outside almost ALL year-long depending on the amount of food still available. Our mild winter season with temperatures in the 60’s during the day is almost an early spring for many insects in the Las Vegas Valley.
The Desert Grass Hopper is the most prevalent in our dry climate but other species can sometimes be found also, sometimes using your parked car as shade during the summer! Grass Hoppers can fly far distances in search of food but when encountered by humans their flight pattern is almost clumsy like the American Cockroach.
Crickets share the same eating, drinking, and living areas as Cockroaches and can transmit the same bacteria and nastiness!Call Stop Buggn Pest Control on the first sign of any thing that crawls and has more than two legs!
